PUBLICATION DATE: 15 SEPTEMBER 2021

“I am sitting with the President of Hungary, having just presented my credentials as British Ambassador to his country. I am excited and a little overwhelmed. Everyone is calling me ‘Excellency’ which I am not used to. I have a chauffeur outside, in a British racing-green Jaguar which flies the Union Jack. Is this really me? How did it all happen? This is my story.”

JANE REID

NELL NORAH JANE

PUBLISHED: 20 AUGUST 2021

Jane Reid owes her existence to the fact that her father was pulled out of a well in the Sudan in 1927 by Orde Wingate, the legendary leader of the Chindits in Burma, and went on to write a play about infidelity. In this humorous, evocative, beautifully written memoir, Jane charts an extraordinary twelve-year period in her young life from 1933 to 1945.
